The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will destroy more than 500,000 ballots next month.
Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said to be destroyed are 200,000 to 300,000 plus defective ballots, as well as the more than 200,000 roadshow ballots.
“We will also destruct the roadshow ballots that’s why it reached 500,000 plus ballots to be destroyed,” he said in a press briefing Thursday, April 28.
“There will be an activity prior to destruction on May 7. It will be shown to the public, the media and political parties are invited to see the actual destruction of the ballots,” added Casquejo.
He said the ballots will not be burned but instead be divided into three parts.
“Later after elections it will be disposed,” Casquejo said.
Meanwhile, the Comelec said 48 percent of the official ballots hat will be used in the May 2022 polls have already been dispatched in the field.
The Comelec also reported that 100 percent of the ballot boxes and transmission devices have been dispatched to local hubs.
Nearly completely deployed are the vote counting machines (96.44 percent), external batteries (99.54 percent), and consolidated canvassing system laptop (99.01percent).
