From the Lancashire Mosslands in North West England to Chiang Rai in the north of Thailand, The Four Seasons has dipped its luxurious toes in the popular glamping trend before. And yet, examples of big hotel brands curating this specific kind of immersive accommodation run thin. Yet there’s evidently demand for it, seeing as The Four Seasons is just about to open a new glamping experience, this time in Punta Mita, Mexico with the adults-only Naviva Resort.
The glamping component is a sister to the nearby Four Seasons Resort Punta Mia, which already has a considerable presence on the coast with no less than ten restaurants and bars, two golf courses, two beaches, three pools and both spa and fitness facilities.
Trudging deep into the heart of a dense forest, The Four Seasons Naviva Resort will be the first luxury tented camp in the Americas from the famed hotel chain, spread across 47 forested acres looking out over the Pacific Ocean. Only 15 luxury tents will make up the property, situated about a one hour drive from the famously party-minded resort town of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco.

It seems Four Seasons are hoping the deep immersion in Naviva Resort’s cliffside forest location will add another layer of profound personal discovery for guests seeking an uncomprimising luxury glaming experience somewhere a bit more unique than Cancun.
Being as close, physically and mentally, to nature as possible seems to be the theme here, with each of the standalone tents featuring an open-air biophilic design – an architectural approach that connects people to their natural surroundings – with seamless indoor-outdoor spaces that are both designed to reflect the forest. Each tent has its own living room and separate bedroom, as well as a private plunge pool, deck and outdoor shower.
Given the reputation The Four Seasons has in the Americas, it should be no surprise to see Navivia Resort immediately swamped by luxury jetsetters when it opens in December 2022. In anticipation of the influx of travellers, the resort has already put together an experience program for guests with activities ranging from Mexican coffee tastings to sunset rituals led by certified guides.
Two cocoon-like spa pods lay deeper into the forest as a part of the resort’s offering, along with a traditional Mexican temazcal sweat lodge, outdoor fitness centre and a 175-metre private beach where yoga clases and meditation sessions take place. Spa treatments make use of indigenous Mexican ingredients like hydrating snow mashrooms and natural gemstones.
Gastronomy is taken care of by the signature Copal Cucina restaurant, designed to be as homely and welcoming as possible with an all-day dining approach that can extend to a private picnic on the beach for guests or a cocktail by the pool. The open-kitchen in the centre of the restaurant is driven primarily by open-fire cooking methods with traditional BBQ pits, wood-fire grill rotisseries and wood-fire ovens used to translate fresh ocean catches and seasonal produce into a high-end dining experience.
